Buttercream icing is an easy and tasty topping for your favourite cakes, cupcakes and biscuits.
150g softened butter
2 cups sifted icing sugar
1-2 Tbsp. hot water
1 Tsp vanilla essence
A couple of drops of food colouring (optional)
In a medium mixing bowl beat the butter until pale, smooth and fluffy.
Gradually add the sifted icing sugar continuing to beat.
Add the vanilla essence whilst still beating, and add food colouring as desired and hot water to make it icing creamy.
When the mixture is creamy and fluffy, finish beating, and spoon into a piping bag, with the desired nozzle.
Pipe onto cooled cake, cupcakes or even cookies. For best results twist wrist back and forth while squeezing the piping bag.
Add that extra flavour to your decorating by topping your iced creation with dried raspberries, lemon or lime zest, sprinkles or grated chocolate!!
