The Eco-Conscious Kitchen

In the past few years, the world has seen a shift from consumers using any product they want (as long as it gets the job done) to switching to healthier and safer alternatives for their health. Many people have swapped plastic for stainless steel or wood.

Health is the driving force behind many of the kitchen swaps that people have made. The population today is health-focused and with the rise in health conditions such as cancer, heart conditions, obesity and neurological conditions, now more than ever people are fixated on the products they are bringing into their homes.

Cookware

What was once a world dominated by non-stick cookware is now a world that loves stainless steel cookware. There are concerns among many people that non-stick coatings contain chemicals that leech into food thus affecting their health. People love that stainless steel cookware doesn't contain any of the chemicals and PFAs that non-stick cookware usually does.

The only problem that people seem to be struggle with is making stainless steel cookware non-stick. Luckily, we've put together a post on how to make your stainless steel cookware non-stick here. It's quite easy once you learn and it's great if you want to make the switch to stainless steel cookware.

Our Stevens Titan Stainless Steel cookware is a good choice. Made from 18/10 stainless steel, this cookware is durable and good at conducting and retaining heat to cook your food to perfection. With ergonomic handles, lids and steam vents, this cookware has been designed with your use in mind.

Microwavable Containers

Consumers have started moving away from plastic containers to store their food and reheat. Instead, we are seeing a trend in people preferring glass or stainless steel containers.

We have a range of glass containers to choose from at Stevens. Agee is great for storing leftovers and food in the fridge. The round, glass containers come with bamboo lids to lock in the freshness and they are even microwave and oven safe with the lid off.

Cuisine::pro Pure Glass Storage is made from high quality borosilicate glass. The containers are microwave safe and oven safe with plastic lids to lock in the freshness. A great option for storing chopped fruit and vegetables in the fridge.

Drink Bottles

Glass or stainless steel drink bottles are a popular choice at the moment. Stainless steel drink bottles are good for keeping your water cold for hours at a time and some can even keep hot drinks hot for a long period of time. They're a great multi purpose bottle to have. You can store water, iced coffee, juice or any liquid you want.

Chopping Boards

Swap the plastic chopping boards for wooden ones instead! A lot of people are making the shift away from those old, plastic chopping boards to wooden alternatives. Bamboo chopping boards are the most popular at the moment. Bamboo is a renewable resource making it an environmentally friendly option to plastic.

Cooking Utensils

Plastic cooking utensils are out and stainless steel cooking utensils are in. Some people worry about putting plastic utensils into their food when they're cooking so they're making the swap to stainless steel utensils. Stevens Atlantic utensils are made from stainless steel and are designed to last in the kitchen. You can use them inside and on the barbecue. They're also stain resistant and have a hook to hang them.

Glass Jars & Pantry Containers

Not only do glass pantry jars look aesthetically pleasing but they are great for storing your food. Made from borosilicate glass, glass pantry containers are a great option if you need to clearly see what is in the container, keep food fresh and stack food easily. The airtight bamboo lids also help lock in freshness for effortless organisation.

Mixing Bowls

Stainless steel bowls are a great alternative to plastic mixing bowls. Not only are they extremely durable but they're good for hot and cold food. Great for baking and making curds over saucepans. Easy to clean and stain resistant. Plastic mixing bowls are harder to keep clean as food can sometimes stain the inside of the bowl and be hard to get out.

If you're conscious of the kitchenware you have in your home, consider making a swap. Do your research and determine which swap is the best for you and your lifestyle. We have a range of options at Stevens that can help make your transition easier.
